Ten Navy Sailors Injured in Helicopter Incident at NAS Fallon

The U.S. Navy is investigating the cause of an incident involving two , which occurred at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the training range at Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon. 

Ten injured sailors were airlifted to Reno for medical treatment in two Navy helicopters. Upon landing in Reno’s Picket Park Reno at approximately 9:15 p.m., the Reno Police Department assisted with traffic control as the sailors were transported to Renown Hospital for treatment. 

Two MH-60S Knighthawk helicopters were involved in the incident, explained Naval Air Forces spokesperson Cmdr. Beth Teach, at noon on Friday. “The two helicopters, each with a crew of five personnel, were conducting routine training at the time of the incident,” said Teach.

 “All ten crew members released from the hospital following medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries,” stated Teach. 

The Navy has not released any information related to the incident. “The cause of the mishap remains under investigation,” said Teach. 

The Knighthawk helicopters are assigned to Golden Falcons of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 12 attached to Carrier Air Wing 5 as part of the U.S. Navy’s presence in Japan.
